Dear Upper Deck Volunteer Alliance Members,
Well we took a little break during our move and while we worked through a few other changes, but we are back! We hope you are charged up for new missions and more Upper Deck mail days for our top performers. We have really enjoyed seeing how creative members are with the challenges and we really appreciate all you do to help make this hobby a better place. It has also be great to hear how members are using the Upper Deck Volunteer Alliance Facebook page to strategize and share together. We are so happy to see this community growing and it is awesome to see collectors working together.
Since we have been off for a bit, we have THREE different missions members can take part in for Mission #9. As always, members do not need to do any of the missions, you can pick one, two and if you really feel motivated all three. Some are easy and some require a little bit more work. Here they are from easiest to hardest for Mission #9!
Mission # 9 A – Help us get the word out about University of Texas and Oklahoma Football products
If you haven’t heard, we are releasing two new football trading card sets that are specific to two different colleges. It is our hope we can produce more of these types of sets in the future, but these are very non-traditional in that they are not really targeted towards our normal trading card fans, but rather fans of these schools. We are looking for our Volunteer Alliance to help get the word out about these sets by posting information on them to message boards and blogs for those schools. Members that choose to take part in this mission should be fairly computer savvy, should read up on these two sets, post on different sites and send us the links to qualify for an Upper Deck mail day. Here’s the information you’ll need:

Mission # 9 B – Dress Up Like An Upper Deck Card or Encourage Other to Dress Up Like an Upper Deck Card for HALLOWEEN! !
Ryan Murphy is a great Upper Deck Volunteer Alliance member and we really enjoy his creativity. Last year he actually dressed up like an Upper Deck trading card and we all thought it was so funny here. We asked him to share directions on how to make the costume so other fans could dress up like an Upper Deck card this holiday and we are hoping to see some fans make that happen on Halloween. Here’s his story on how to make the costume: http://upperdeckblog.com/2011/09/happy-halloween-creative-costume-and-holiday-treat-ideas/
To qualify for an Upper Deck mail day for this mission, you’ll need to make a costume, take pictures and send them to us or at the very least, share this story on how to make the costume on other Halloween websites and shoot us the links to those.
Mission # 9 C – “How To” Videos for New or Lapsed Collectors
What the Volunteer Alliance is really about is making the hobby a better place and that is what this mission is all about. New or lapsed collectors can sometimes be intimidated about getting involved in collecting. We thought it would be really impactful if our Volunteer Alliance Members made a series of “How To” videos to help educate people on collecting. They do not need to be long or elaborate, but should speak to collectors and help educate them on subjects they have questions about. Here are just some ideas we thought of here for potential videos:
How to collect trading cards
How to find pleasure in your collection beyond the value
How and why you should get a card graded
How to get the most out of attending a sports collectibles show
How to purchase authentic autographs
How to show off and display your collection
How to find out what your cards are worth
How the hobby has changed since the 1980’s
How to get back into collecting after a break
How to collect your favorite players
How to sell a card on eBay
How teachers can use trading cards in the classroom
How to trade your cards
How to set up at a show
These are just some of the ideas and you may have some of your own. To qualify for an Upper Deck mail day you’ll need to film, post and send us the link to at least one video on this subject. Don’t be worried about another member choosing a similar video or videos as you did, we know you will all bring something unique to the table. We will be featuring several of these videos on the Upper Deck Blog.
The deadline for these missions is November 2 so if you are going to participate, please email all documentation on what you did to upperdeckmarketing@upperdeck.com before that date. We’ll review entries that week and share details on your next mission shortly thereafter! If you want to collaborate with other members, remember to check out Upper Deck Volunteer Alliance on Facebook. Good luck and thanks for your help as always!
Sincerely,
Chris Carlin
